Name: Jasper Jordan
Canon: The 100
Original or Alternate Universe: original
Canon Point: post episode 1x13
Number: 100
Setting: The 100 is set on Earth (or Earth's atmosphere) 100 years post nuclear holocaust. The primary story follows the 100, a group of criminal children sent down to Earth from the space station orbiting above to see if the Earth is habitable for human life yet.
History: The story begins with 100 juvenile offenders in the Ark, a space station orbiting the irradiated Earth post nuclear holocaust, being dropped down to the ground like canaries down a mineshaft, in order to see if the Earth is livable. Unfortunately, the ship's landing goes a bit awry, and the communications tech is damaged, preventing the kids on the ground from communicating back up to the adults in the Ark.
Day one on Earth and Jasper, who was arrested with his best friend Monty for sampling "herb" from Monty's parents' store, heads off with a small group of kids aiming to reach Mount Weather, where they hope to find food and supplies for the rest of the camp. On their way, the kids chat and get to know each other, and a girl named Octavia decides to go for an impromptu swim and is almost eaten by a giant snake. Jasper, harboring a small crush on Octavia, jumps in to pull her out to safety, managing to earn a bit of her interest and attention.
Jasper continues to let Octavia's influence on him encourage him to act bolder and braver, which ultimately leads to his undoing when, upon coming to a river separating the group from their intended target of Mount Weather, Jasper decides to be the first one to swing across and winds up with a spear in his chest as a result.
The rest of his party panics and runs off, convinced that he was killed, only to realize later that he might still be alive. Sure enough, the come across Jasper (alive!) tied to a tree as bait to lure the rest of the party into a pit of spikes. Which they manage to avoid. They get Jasper down and bring him back to camp where he goes through a slow, painful recovery from his wound.
When Jasper is finally healed enough to get out of bed, he exhibits clear signs of PTSD from his brush with death, terrified to even step foot past the gates of their little camp, and it's only at Octavia's patient prompting that he manages to do so. Of course, he then promptly trips and falls only to discover the body of one of their camp mates, which definitely didn't help with his already nervous disposition.
In an effort to communicated with the kids down on Earth, a girl named Raven is sent down in an escape pod, and while she tries to cobble their communications into something that can successfully reach the Ark, Octavia disappears, presumably taken captive by one of the "grounders", the people who were on the Earth before them. Determined to find her and bring her back, despite still being a bit shaky and nervous, Jasper goes out with the group to find her, in the process striking out against the Grounders for the first time and solidifying his approach toward them as one of violence.
Get them before they get him, basically.
Jasper suffers a particularly bad trip from some hallucinogenic nuts that the camp mistakenly imbibes, while two other members of the camp manage to bring back guns from a scouting mission.
Octavia, who managed to befriend the Grounder that had been keeping her previously, attempts to broker a peace meeting between the camp and the Grounders, but wary and untrusting of the other party, Jasper and two others are sent to the peace treaty in secret as backup with the recently discovered guns. Jasper, arguably more on edge than anyone else at the meeting because of his aforementioned PSTD, spots a threat in the trees from the Grounders and fires his weapon, disrupting the meeting and, in effect, proclaiming war between the two parties.
In preparation for the coming battle, Jasper joins intellectual forces with Raven to help her in sorting through the dud bullets and later, in constructing and setting off a bomb on the bridge that serves as the main path between the two parties' camps as a way to delay the Grounders while their own camp recovers from a biological weapon that had been released into the camp by the Grounders. Interestingly enough, Jasper and Octavia were some of the very few who did not fall ill from the biological weapon, which was what led to Jasper being the one responsible for igniting the bomb.
Of course, in the end, the bomb was only a temporary deterrent and Jasper once again joins forces with Raven to cobble together grenades and mines for the camp in defense against the coming invasion. Their efforts get thrown off however when Jasper catches one of their camp killing from within and is taken hostage. In the effort of rescuing him, Raven takes a bullet which winds up against her spine and paralyzes her, which winds up being a very big problem when the only way to handle the encroaching Grounder horde is to hot wire their landing ship to lift off temporarily with all of them inside and fry anybody (ie. the Grounders) left outside, and Raven is unable to maneuver under the ship to do so.
Jasper is called up from the front line where he's been stalling the Grounders to finish the job for her, because apparently during the time when they were making bombs together she was also teaching him rudimentary "rocket science", and Jasper manages to get the ship to lift off long enough to fry everyone left outside (which unfortunately, might include two of their own party).
Upon exiting the ship to survey the damage, the party is bombarded with canisters of sleeping gas by some unknown entity, and this is the last thing Jasper remembers before waking up in the pod on Tranquility.
Personality: At first glance Jasper is that comedic relief side kick. He and his best friend Monty were basically arrested for getting high, and in the beginning he spends a good portion of his time crushing hard on an unattainable girl (or not so unattainable at first, but more, impossible to hold onto), cracking jokes, and goofing off with his best friend. Though through it all he never slacks on providing his share of the work to keep their camp running and everyone safe either.
Jasper's also pretty decently clever and innovative, when he gets going. His chemistry marks back on the Ark were top class and it took him little to no time at all to pick up a lot of Raven's mechanical engineering tricks as well, even going the extra mile to work out a problem in jump starting the rockets on their jumpship without Raven's direction after she'd passed out from her injury.
Though you wouldn't expect it from his first appearances, Jasper eventually becomes to go to person for just about anything in the camp. When Bellamy is too sick to shoot and trigger a bomb at a bridge, Jasper is sent to do it instead. He was the first to approach Raven and offer to help her with her work on their munitions, and the first to realize that when the grounders were attacking their camp they were just trying to get the kids to waste all their bullets first. There's a moment in the attack on their camp where they actually could have done with two of him, because he was needed both to deal with the grounders, and take over for Raven juryrigging their jumpship when she was too injured to do it herself.
This sudden and startling increase in responsibilities and people depending on him has done quite a bit to shock Jasper out of his cookie cutter "funny guy" role and into someone dependable and relatively level headed. He rises to the challenge of life on earth remarkably well, despite a somewhat rough start (A.K.A. the spear in his chest)
Jasper also seems to indicate that Monty was the reason they got caught concerning the drugs in the first place, and casually makes jokes about skimming profits off the top of booze sales to Raven, which suggests that despite his seemingly innocent and sweet demeanor, Jasper is actually quite clever and cognizant in regards to dealings of a somewhat shady nature.
He can be highly excitable and likes to throw himself into situations without thinking too deeply on them, always ready to be the first one to step onto Mount Weather or lead the charge, or even throw himself into a lake with a murderous snake to try and rescue one of his friends. He'll use humor to diffuse a tense situation or distract himself from his inevitable anxiety when he's running headlong into danger.
Because he does get anxious. After taking a spear to the chest on his first day on the ground and nearly dying, Jasper suffers pretty obviously from some bout of PTSD and, on his first day strong enough to actually walk around, he was nervous just walking out of the camp's gates without someone practically holding his hand. His PTSD from nearly dying at the hands of the grounders lead to Jasper perhaps taking the grounders more seriously than anyone else in the camp, sometimes to the point of paranoia.
This PTSD mostly translates into him being extra wary of any dealings with the grounders, hyper-vigilant concerning their presence, and perhaps a bit more willing to resort to violence in response to them. Which one can hardly blame him for considering he almost died at their hands. As time went on and he was allowed to heal a bit, his nervousness diminished, or perhaps simply solidified into resolve. He's still a bit high strung, yes, but he no longer looks like he's constantly about to keel over in fright.
When he's feeling guilty for something, Jasper can turn into a little bit of an asshole for awhile as a sort of defense mechanism. Particularly if he feels like he's being judged by someone whose opinion actually matters quite a lot to him. He hates disappointing people, it's probably his biggest fear, and a huge motivation for all the risks that he takes with himself any time shit gets real.
Jasper's a big believer in interpersonal relationships. He's the most platonically tactile member of the camp, free with hugs and even freer with a smile and a joke to help cheer up anyone who might happen to be down. He doesn't like to ignore other people's problems, despite being mostly willing to ignore his own, and likes to attempt to facilitate actual discussions about problems, which teenage boys almost never want to do. Jasper is a hugely social critter. He likes attention, he likes his friends, and he basically wants everyone to be one big happy family.
Monty is Jasper's best friend since practically birth. Despite the one child per family rule on the Ark, they might as well have been brothers because they grew up with each other and were basically attached at the hip. And While landing on the ground doesn't necessarily change that between them, they do start to expand their horizons a bit out of each other's immediate gravitational pull.
When Jasper starts getting mean and defensive after Octavia blames him for mucking up an attempted peace treaty between their camp and the grounders, Monty calls Jasper on his shit and reminds Jasper that he's always had his back. And despite being touted as a hero by most of the rest of the camp at the time (aside from Octavia, obviously) when Bellamy gives Jasper responsibility for a Very Important Task and Jasper starts to get nervous, his first thought is to go to Monty for support, which Monty inevitably delivers.
After Monty gets separated from the rest of the camp and disappears, Jasper's driving concern until the very end is finding Monty. Even when others at the camp try and point out that Monty is probably dead, Jasper refuses to give up on his best friend.
Octavia caught Jasper's eye from the very beginning. Up in the Ark, on her first day out of her room and with a mark on her face, Jasper was immediately enamored. On earth, Jasper did he very best to impress Octavia and get closer to her, and for a time at least, he'd seemed to win her affections. It didn't last, but Octavia and Jasper are still pretty close regardless. Jasper claims at one point to be willing to walk through hell to protect Octavia, and he's really not lying.
She's just as protective as Jasper as Jasper is of her, and actually tends to treat him like a little brother, coaxing him out past the gates on his first walkaround post spear-in-the-chest, and spitting fire and vitriol when Murphy took Jasper hostage later on, threatening to kill Murphy if he even touched Jasper. This is a little ironic considering between the two of them Jasper is honestly the more capable, but his early nervous disposition probably did a lot to cement him in this sort of place in her mind.
Clarke and Jasper get on well enough, probably in part because Jasper's not really the type to rock the boat in regards to leadership decisions. In fact, Jasper honestly has no interest in being any sort of leader at all, content to play backup to whoever might need him, and he's exceedingly dependable in this regard.
Over time and exposure, Bellamy and Jasper have actually grown quite close as well. With Jasper proving himself to be really rather apt with a gun, Bellamy began to take Jasper along on a lot of his tasks. While they're beginning might have been a little bit rocky, mostly due to Bellamy himself, by the end of season one they're both quite prone to worry about each other, Bellamy even offering himself up in Jasper's stead in a hostage negotiation. Jasper, for his part, has come to really look up to Bellamy, and to depend on him for his leadership.
Raven and Jasper was the relationship that seemed to come out of nowhere and build up steam fast. Not surprisingly, Jasper was the first to approach Raven with overtures of friendship, offering his expertise in chemistry to help her in outfitting the camp's supply of guns. They quickly began to work together on any number of projects, constructing grenades and mines, as well as Raven apparently passing off some her of knowledge of mechanics onto Jasper as well.
They don't just have a working relationship, however, mostly because Jasper refused to simply let it stay there. He pushed at her quite a bit with questions about family and the awkward love triangle between Raven, Finn, and Clarke, offering to be her new family down on earth.
Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations: Jasper is a pretty normal, straight and forward human boy with no particular special powers to speak of. He's of an average height and rather skinny, and his physical capabilities are nothing to write home about, really. He is, however, pretty handing with a gun, a natural with chemistry (and picking up engineering rather quickly as well), and an exceedingly dependable guy to go to when in a clutch. No matter the situation, he throws his all into everything and will go to exceptional lengths for his friends.
He can turn into a big of a dick if he feels guilty about something, or feels as if he's disappointed one of his friends in some way, however. Also, thanks to taking a spear to the chest on his first day on Earth and nearly dying, Jasper has a bit of PTSD that mostly translates into him getting a little anxious in tense situations, hyper vigilance, and a hair trigger towards violence in dangerous situations.
While he's very confident when it comes to things involving science, with most other things Jasper will be a bit more willing to doubt himself, unless he has the backing of his friends. This is due in part with the fact that pre-Earth, he mostly flew under everyone's radar. Whereas Earth, where he has many friends (instead of just Monty) and people depending on him, is a pretty nice surprise for him. He's going to cling to that feeling as tightly as he can.
Lastly, considering the fact that back home he was technically a criminal, as well as most of his recent involvement with adults has involved them attacking him, or using him as a human guinea pig to test whether Earth was livable for the rest of them, he doesn't have the greatest opinion of adults in general and is likely to be far more suspicious of them then other kids his age.

Log Sample:
Jasper had never been one of the party landing on Earth that had decided to make shivs out of the ship's wreckage (and they were shivs, no matter that everyone had seemed so inclined to call them knives. for whatever reason, they had all been criminals, Jasper couldn't really understand why everyone had tried so hard to pretend otherwise).
He'd picked up the guns that Bellamy and Clarke had brought back to camp well enough because they were necessary, instead of simply cruel, but a gun that large was only a liability back up in space, so he'd surrendered it easily enough on his arrival and found himself with only a handful of bullets to his name.
Well, and Raven, of course. And whether they were Grounders or criminals, in the end, they didn't really belong with the rest of the ship's passengers. Not really. Sticking together had been imperative.
Raven had taken to the knife in her locker like it was just part of her arm and while Jasper hadn't been necessarily surprised by that fact, it did lead to more instances than not like this with Jasper coming back to their shared room with a bloody nose and trying to reassure her that she didn't need to gut anybody on the ship.
"It's not that bad, Raven, okay." He tells her, smearing the blood from his lip with the back of his hand and wincing a bit. "You're not just going to let me tell you I tripped and have that be the end of it, are you?"
Comms Sample:
[another peaceful morning on tranquility-or, er, tranquility's equivalent of peaceful anyway, nobody has died today anyway- is suddenly broken by a small explosion, somewhere on the thirty fourth floor.
and if anyone is wondering just what the hell that was all about, jasper is scrambling onto the network just two minutes later. goggles askew on his head and a dark smear on one cheek as he smiles waveringly down at the comm, the sight of smoke wafting up behind him just barely visible over one shoulder.]
Hey, so. Don't worry about the noise or anything, we've just never used these kinds of accelerants before and we're trying to work out a formula for heat and range of the blast.
[he frowns a little and rubs vaguely at the stain on his cheek, only managing to spread it around even more.]
I don't need to hear anything about how dangerous explosions on a spaceship can be okay, Raven and I both grew up in a space station, I think we know what we can get away with safely. [and then he's back to grinning again because, well, blowing shit up, how can you not smile, right?]
If anyone has something small of theirs that they'd like blown up-- maybe a trinket from an ex [slight, barely there glance over his shoulder at something (or someone) off screen] or something else you don't want any more, feel free to bring it by!
